We have unfortunately confirmed that a number of dead fish are present around the edges of Thrupp Lake. Thank you to those who reported this to us.
We believe the most likely cause is low levels of dissolved oxygen in the water. After the recent rainfall following a prolonged dry spell, algae in the lake may have died back rapidly. As this algae decomposes, it uses oxygen from the water, which can cause distress and, sadly, death in fish.
The Environment Agency has been informed, and we will continue to monitor the situation.
As a precaution, please keep dogs out of the lake and do not allow them to drink the water until further notice.
